Few months back a study known as ASER report conducted by an NGO PRATHAM showed deficiency in our primary education. It showed students of 5th class cant solve the sums of class 2. Again one more study revealed that 90 % of our graduates are unemployable which means they are not suitable for jobs even after completing 3 years of course at college level. And few days back whole educated community was disappointed when none of our university find place in top 200 rank. All it shows that our present educational system is lacking somewhere and need to be changed.
How many of us are sure that what we are pursuing in our colleges in the name of bachelors and other higher courses is exactly the same discipline which appeal to our inner. And all a good no. of people switching from one job to another. It shocked me when I come to know that Sunita Williams, an ideal for so many, actually switched thrice before she realized that space science is her discipline. So one thing is sure that it happens with majority of students and class 10th is quite early to choose ones field. It needs a good exposure to decide for ones carrier and college gives that exposure. Therefore the new course pattern introduced by Delhi University is a welcome step and must be appreciated. It really understands the budding nature of student's carrier at its graduation level and give them immense choices to choose from.
By incorporating subjects like Indian Culture, Indian History, Communication and Life Skills in its curriculum it is trying to address lacunae of our educational system. This will not only help its students to get good jobs by making them 'employable' but will give our country a no. of good citizens.
